It was very publicly known that Harrison Ford would be returning for the new Blade Runner: 2049, the new installment from director Denis Villeneuve (Arrival), and shot by the world famous Roger Deakins.
What has not been made clear is the importance of Harrison Ford’s appearance playing the iconic Rick Deckard. Now, thanks to an interview with Fandango who spoke with Ryan Gosling, we may have an idea of the actor’s involvement. And it doesn’t sound like a lot of screentime will be dedicated. Gosling stated;
“I can say that we shot for many months before Harrison [Ford] arrived, and obviously there was a lot of anticipation as to when he would show up and how that would be, and it was just a relief. The second he got to set, he just rolled up his sleeves and we all just got to work. It was a real great pleasure to get to work with him.”
It was rumored early on that the story would revolve around finding Deckard, so Ford’s role could be in the second half of the film anyway. And depending on the types of shots and schedule, him showing up months late to the set couldn’t make a lick of difference. So although the thought of seeing Deckard in a starring headline role on screen again is quite exciting, I’d rather have a solid scifi film than a trip down nostalgia lane.
Blade Runner 2049 will be released on October 6, 2017. As a fan I’m always following news on this, and will try to post any tidbits I come across.
