Came across this streamed interview with Joe Walker on the topic of cutting film, specifically Arrival and his work with Denis Villeneuve. The editor and director are also teamed up to edit the upcoming Blade Runner: 2049.
He touches on some of his process, his working relationship with Villeneuve, how he created the tension/buildup to seeing the aliens in Arrival, and approaching editing from the perspective of a sound editor.
It’s a nice candid interview where he is allowed to just speak at length with little interruption. Very personal.
