Film School Student Learning to Edit? Apple Offers a Discount on FCPX
I’m no fan of Apple, especially the last 4 years they have really shit the bed.
Trash can shaped computers, CPUs & GPUs that are years behind current tech, and dongles dongles dongles.
But FCPX is still a solid editing software package. Last week Adobe announced some price bumps in certain regions due to currency fluctuations. Some students who sub to CC also saw a jump in rates. I work with a lot of college university interns, and I tell them they don’t need to learn to edit on the best software, they need to learn to edit. Good editing philosophy will carry over into any software package.
Apple announced they will sell students a copy of their “Pro Apps Bundle”, which includes Final Cut Pro X, Logic Pro X, Motion 5, Compressor 4, and MainStage 3. The price is a very very resonable $199.
So if you’re a kid in a 4 year university that’s about $49.75/yr. In comparison Adobe CC is much more expensive but do remember with CC you are getting a ton more than just video editing applications. Adobe CC calculates to $330/yr! (first year is 239.88, after that it is 359.99 a year).
Plus, you get to keep the software FOREVER. How weird is it to think how unique that is.
So, if you’re learning to edit at a university, you may want to look at FCPX as a super affordable, but still feature full option.
