I’m a long time user of DuIK for After Effects, and always on the lookout for other alternatives that might make things easier, or just present a different way to do them. BAO Bones for AE is a plugin that seems to have some unique features including GPU acceleration. At $99 it’s not “cheap” but I think it does present a value worth the tag.
Unlike DuIK, Bones doesn’t use the Puppet Tool tech in AE for bending the mesh. It allows for customized joints and control over the bend. Also for the rigging you don’t need to have your characters laid out with straight arms and legs which is nice. Claims to be very fast, due to not relying on expressions and coupled with GPU acceleration. Check out the tutorials below to see how it works.
