Celere – Latin for “fast”& “swift”
There’s a fresh lens company out demoing some new products by the name of Celere – Who has a website with copy I appreciate the humor of.
Anyway, back to the topic. Celere’s HS Series of prime lenses are a set of five full frame cine glass, checking off every standard feature on the list. Focus marks that glow in the dark, user changeable PL & EF mounts, same size & diameter. They are described by the manufacturer as “a Leica look with a little more contrast like a Cooke lens”
Some nice things I didn’t expect to see are 40.5mm filter threading on the backs. I love that feature since we are using gimbals so often that the mattebox just becomes a pain in the arse. Another plus for gimbal/steadicam is that they ensured the entire HS series all are the same weight so with lens swaps you don’t need to rebalance.
One of the stars in the lineup is the 18.5mm T1.5. This is kind of crazy considering it has full frame coverage(24mm x 36mm). The rest of the HS series primes have been out since 2015, but the 18.5 is something new. I hope to have a chance to check it out. Not sure where they source the glass from, but for now take a peek at their reel:
