Autodesk Takes a Dump on Users – Increases in Maintenance Pricing
Time to Move to Blender?
I hate subscription plans. Pay forever. The BS spin is that they will roll out improvements faster, and that it’s better for the customer. Anyone with any sense knows that is total bullshit.
Are you a company that wants to make money? Then you charge the most money for the least amount of service.
In what seems to be a plan to forcefully phase out the Autodesk Maintenance plans, they have announced a new pricing structure beginning May 7, 2017:
- +5% in 2017
- +10% in 2018
- +20% in 2019
By 2019 the cumulative price of a maintenance plan will reach almost 40% increase – but they are offering an option to switch from maintenance to subscription at up to 60% less. Which seems clear to me that they are trying to price users out of the maintenance plan.
Autodesk made it abundantly clear by first stating “There are no plans to ever remove maintenance subscription.” Then following up with a cover your ass edit (which I understand for a business, but I’m an angry customer) “I cannot to an infinite amount of time, however no plan currently exist.”
Autodesk as a company has under-performed financially, and advised investors that their switch to subscription plans will eventually pay off. That right there shows this move is not about providing any additional value to the consumer.
