Electronic Variable ND Filter Adapter for Your Panasonic GH5 & Other MFT / E-Mount Cameras
When keeping your setup lightweight & compact is important (like on a gimbal) an internal ND filterset is a godsend. Attaching a mattebox to switch out filters can become a pain on fast moving (read: low budget) jobs.
A company called Aputure has a product called the DEC Vari-BND Genius Adapter. It is an EF to MFT adapter (Also available in Sony E-Mount) that allows for 8 stops of ND that can be adjusted wirelessly through their controller unit. With the release of the Panasonic GH5, this could be a great accessory to get early on especially for those of us who have a large selection of EF mount glass that we’d like to use on the GH5.
The wireless controller included also can control the lens aperture, focus, and rec start/stop. The focus uses the lens internal servo motor so it is usless as a follow focus since the motors are stepping types but it is a little bonus feature nonetheless.
The main concern I have is the LCD they are using in the product, and what kind of color shift might be seen when using. The product demo video says “Minimal Color Shift” and since that it is a subjective description I guess we will have to wait for some tests.
It retails for $699 and you can buy it direct here.
