Following up the IPP2 Writeup , RED has released Build 6.4.17 for DSMC2 Cameras along with an updated Redcine-X. IPP2 promises better management of challenging colors, an improved demosaicing algorithm to achieve higher detail at the same pixel resolution.
IPP2 is separated into 3 stages:
- Primary Raw Development
This stage consists of technical controls such as demosiac, exposure, and white balance. This demosiac is a new algorithm that is said to improve detail and sharpness (therefore percieved resolution).
Self explanatory, this stage is the creative part of the workflow
- Output Transform
This is the last stop where you can convert to display-specific settings from RedWideGamutRGB/Log3G10 to your standard output colorspaces. Through a tone map and color space conversion.
I took a few R3D files and you can see the differences here in the side-by-sides. Images Enlarged to 200%
You can see the new demosiacing algorithm does in fact sharpen the output image. It introduces some errors zoomed in over 100% but at a normal viewing size you can notice an increase in perceived sharpness.
