Canon 5D Mark-IV Firmware Upgrade – C-Log is Now Available!
This has been in the rumor mill for quite a while and seemed like it was going to be unveiled at NAB 2017. But a few days before the show, Canon officially announced the availability of C-Log for the 5D Mark-IV.
For those who already own the 5D, it comes as a paid upgrade available in June 2017 for $99 (notice that is right at the same price point as Panasonic’s GH5 log upgrade) and new versions of the 5D Mark-IV will begin distribution with the upgrade in place.
C-Log is the gamma curve used in Canon’s Cinema EOS series and when shooting at ISO400 or above will give a dynamic range of about 12 stops and the upgrade will include two LUTs for use in your monitoring or post chain.
The upgrade requires you to send your camera in to a Canon service center which is a pain in the ass but if you’re shooting on a 5D frequently I’d say it’s worth the cash.
