NAB 2017 – Zeiss Compact Prime CP.3 Full Frame Lenses with eXtended Data
Zeiss dropped a new set of Compact Prime Cp.3 lenses this year at NAB. With focal lengths covering the 15mm – 135mm range, they are all full frame lenses and available with Zeiss’ eXtended Data feature. More on that in a second.
The CP.3’s have a front of 95mm, down from the 114mm fronts of the CP.2 lenses. While reducing the size of the lens the focus has been redesigned to be smoother and require less torque to turn through the 300 degree rotation which will help when using less than top end follow focus motor systems
In keeping with the times, the lenses also allow for user swappable mounts with PL, EF, and F Mounts.
The CP.3’s are available in 15, 18, 21, 25, 28, 35, 50, 85, 100, and 135 focal lengths with an aperture of T2.9 from 15-21mm and T2.1 from 25-135mm.The eXtended Data option for the glass adds a lemo port to the barrel and extra /i Technology pins on the lens in the PL version. Zeiss worked with the same /i Technology group as Cooke to add their own dataset which will work hand in hand with an ‘app’ or grading software where you can correct or increase lens aberrations, adjust distortion, and vignette. This would be super handy for shots you pass to VFX as you can do the correction on set in the DIT station. The XD system logs:
- Lens name, type and focal length
- Calibrated focusing distance
- Calibrated T-stop value
- Real time depth-of-field data and hyperfocal distance
- Horizontal field of view
- Entrance pupil position
- Lens distortion characteristics based on the focal point
- Lens shading characteristics based on focal point and effective T-stop
Pricing is as follows
CP.3 5 Lens Set – $19,316
CP.3 5-Lens Set w/ XD – $25,476
