Tip Top 4 Favorite NAB 2017 Product Announcements
NAB 2017 is over with some interesting items announced but nothing mind blowing. Panasonic teased that new camera but didn’t announce anything specific (maybe at Cinegear?) Some new gimbals came out including the Ronin 2 and Freefly Movi XL. These are my favorites from the past week. Click the titles to go to the specific writeup if you want to learn more.
These new batteries from HyperChargeBattery not only can charge in 20-35 minutes (depending on capacity) but they also have a much longer lifespan with 3000 cycles. Not to mention the design of the 260Wh looks like an old school film mag!
I’m a loyalist, and my CP.2’s have treated me very well so I’m excited for the next gen. Zeiss dropped a new set of Compact Prime Cp.3 lenses with focal lengths covering the 15mm – 135mm range, they are all full frame lenses and available with Zeiss’ eXtended Data feature.
Atomos introduced a HDR (1200nits) capable 19″ 1920×1080 display that also doubles as a recorder that can acquire 4K 12bit Raw, 10bit ProRes/DNxHR. At the price point it is a very attractive buy indeed.
These Zylight panels contain a gel with suspended small metal particles that default to an opaque state. As charge is applied the particles line up and become transparent. You can control the amount of diffusion wirelessly so you never have to climb up to reach the light ever again.
Oh and software wise – Resolve 14 definitely an easy buy now that it’s only $299. Use the savings to get a control surface huh?
No big camera announcements which is kind of a relief you know? Now you don’t have to stress about needing to upgrade…yet. Cinegear is around the corner….
