Zacuto Camera Support – Control Grips, Follow Focus Motors, & Backpack
Zacuto has revealed details about their new products that all fit into their Recoil shoulder rig ecosystem. It includes redesigned Control Grips, Backpack battery and power distro block, E-drive, and Z-Motor. They designed these parts to work together as one complete system where you can keep your hands on the rig and off the camera as much as possible. If you’re a one man band this rig is a boon.
The Control Grips feature the classic ergonomic grip made popular by Aaton and can control Iris, Camera Start/Stop, EVF Control (If using a Zacuto model), a programmable function button, and a zoom rocker. The grips are currently compatible with Canon C Series, Sony FS5, FS100, FS7, FS7 II, FS700, RED, Arri, and Canon DSLR.
The zoom rocker on the front of the handle can be used to drive the new 15mm Z-Motor lens motor on a rig to provide ENG style zoom control with any geared lens. These motors can be daisy chained x3 to provide full FIZ remove control.
Next in the system is the E-Drive Follow Focus. While it looks unconventional (and phallic), it is designed with ergonomics in mind to keep your hands on the handle. This will drive the focus motor so you can smoothly focus and keep the camera balanced. It comes standard with things you’d expect from a controller such as lens remapping.
Zacuto’s new Z-Motor FIZ motors mount on 15mm rods, have enough torque to drive stiff cinema lenses, and come with a .8 pitch gear that can be mounted on either side of the motor.
The Backpack is the brains and power of the operation with a V-Mount that can power the camera and accessories with a variety of I/O:
- 0 pin Hirose serial connection for servo lens control
- 12 pin Hirose serial connection for camera control
- SDI in
- SDI out
- LANC connection for camera control
- Antenna – Connection with Z-Motor(s) & firmware updates via wifi
- Power with V-Mount, 3-Stud/Gold Mount, or P-Tap
- Mount on V-mount equipped camera with pass through power
- USB Power x2
- 4-pin Hirose to connect E-Drive to Backpack
- 2-pin Lemo for power out or motor power
