Obsessive Layers 2 Review for Adobe After Effects – Easily Organize Your Comp Layers
Why the HELL have I never used this before?
Obsessive Layers is a script from aescripts.com and at only $9.99 I’m going to tell you to buy it right now. It’s super simple, super satisfying, and gives you even less excuses to hand off unorganized comps to the next artist.
The script gives you the following options:
- Trim to Keyframes
- Trim to Markers
- Trim to Mattes
- Trim to Children
- Trim to Parent
You can perform all of those operations on the in point, out point, or both in & out.
The plugin installs like most scripts, you place into the ScriptUI Panels and boot up After Effects. Obsessive Layers asks for your serial number upon startup but after that you’re off to the races.
When this really shines is while you’re working at a breakneck speed creating multiple layers and keyframes. With one click you can trim these layers to only span the length of your keyframed animation using Trim to Keyframes. This is the feature I am using the most by far.
The other option I’ve been constantly using is the Trim to Parent feature. When you build a stack of parented layers within the timeline it is super simple to get those all lined up with the parent in a single click.
I say at only $9.99 this is a must have for any Adobe After Effects user. Sure, with each use you’re saving seconds, but those add up at the end of a project. Plus your peers will appreciate it if they have to delve into your project at a later date.
