Agent 327: Operation Barbershop – Using Open Source Blender to Create Feature Quality Animation
When Autodesk announced their price increases I saw a good opportunity to make a case for using Blender, a free open source 3D software package. This short trailer/film from the Blender Animation Studios is another case study in what can be achieved with talent independent of the software package being used. Especially when the core software package costs $0.
The team brought together the piece using Blenrig, the dependency graph, OpenSubdiv, and some cloth sim to create this short. While not a feature yet, they are in talks to possibly create a full length feature from the source material.
