Canon C300 Mk II Firmware Update Allows Users to Disable Noise Reduction
The best possible footage to start with is untouched and flat. Log gamma, no sharpening, no noise reduction. Many cameras in the low-mid range market do not allow for this and at minimum force noise reduction into the processing chain before writing files.
This is done mainly for the press and fueling the hype train – when people online are pixel peeping high ISO’s and arguing about how clean the image is, do not realize that a lot of that noise is reduced post processing and not a clean image from the sensor itself.
The aggressiveness of the noise reduction is up to the manufacturer and can introduce artifacts.
Canon’s release of C300 firmware V22.214.171.124.00 allows the user to deselect noise reduction from the Picture Profile menu, eliminating it completely.
