VFX Breakdown – The Cinematic Trailer for “Dreadnought” by Real Time UK
I love it when two of my passions cross over, this time it’s actually three: Sci-fi, VFX, and Videogames.
Real Time UK completed the cinematic trailer work for Dreadnought, the combat simulator developed by Yager Development. This game has been on my radar for a bit now, as it was first previewed way back in 2014. The player will be in command of a large spacecraft chosen from a variety of ships and use strategy to take out the enemy. Take a look at the trailer:
Real Time used a variety of tools to create the cinematic trailer which involved generating large environments for the ships to fly over and freedom to show the terrain from any angle. To do this, the team used World Machine to create a base mesh, augmented by hand modeled cliff faces to add detail:
Real Time also utilized Houdini was used to create the VFX such as explosions, particles, and weapon fx:
