If you’re involved in the RED community you’ve inevitably heard the name Phil Holland. A big RED advocate and cinematographer, he has released a series of 3D LUTs called philmColor.
Designed around the new RED IPP2 pipeline, it includes 103 3D LUTs for use in post and in camera (cameras with IPP2 support). You can use these LUTs in REDCINE-X regardless of color science used but they are intended to be applied to footage using the REDWideGamutRGB color and LOG3G10 gamma.
If you haven’t used imported LUTs in REDCINE, it is quite simple as using a dropdown menu.
Whether you apply them to IPP2 footage or to older RED R3D footage, the choice from 102 looks will give you a good start on a creative look for your footage.
Check out the product page on phfx.com. The price is not bad at all at $325 when you consider that you will have access to 102 new LUTs, and promised upgrade to a Version 2 in the future.
