Chaos Group Releases V-Ray 3.6 for 3ds Max with Hybrid Rendering
V-Ray 3.6 has been released by Chaos Group for 3ds Max.
The biggest news of the release is addition of V-Ray Hybrid, a combo CPU and GPU rendering solution. With this system users can render a scene using V-Ray RT GPU but allowing CPU assist. It should allow artists to leverage the power of the GPU but the fallback to CPU if the power or RAM is limited on the graphics card side of things.
You however, are still bound to the limitations of the V-Ray RT GPU features – the CPU addition does not expand the feature set of that particular render engine. And only on NVIDIA of course.
Also in the update is support for NVLink from Nvidia. This allows V-Ray to utilize GPU memory across multiple graphics cards, eliminating the bottleneck of low memory, if you have another video card to cover it.
