Part of me loves that we now are upgrading the firmware of light fixtures, the other part of me is scared shitless. (Will lights ‘crash’??)
The Arri SkyPanel’s latest firmware release, v3.0 brings a bunch of cool new features to the mix. 10 new features to be exact, to allow for even more effect types without an external console controller. The big ones from my point of view:
Lighting Effects – allows choice and customization of 12 preset lighting effects. Included are candle, clouds passing, club lights, color chase, cop car, fire, fireworks, strobe, lightning, paparazzi, pulsing, and TV. Each can further be tweaked after selection.
Source Matching – The inclusion of 46 color matches such as tungsten, sodium, and flourescent, allows quick matching of common light sources by selecting it from a list in the menu.
High Speed Mode – Allows shooting of any frame rate and shutter up to 25,000 FPS and 2 degree shutter with no flicker
Onboard RGBW Mode – Previously only controllable via DMX, now users can enter RGBW mode from the control panel to adjust each channel directly and also save as a preset.
Frequency Selection – This allows for the fine adjustment of the SkyPanel
A few other features such as sACN compatibility and SkyPanel Web Server sound cool but I’ll leave that up to others to worry about. Like Jem Schofield in this video here, who will show off some of the features of the 3.0 update.
