TextBox for Adobe After Effects – Automatic Shapes That Respond to Text Layers
TextBox is a plugin by Plugin Everything that automatically adds a background shape to your text layers in After Effects. A simple idea, and it allows user customizable shape and roundness of the the box. Other visual options include border options, and matte options. I took a quick look at the demo version, available before you buy.
You can see the interface is self explanatory and lays out everything in a logical structure. The twirl down menus allow for animation offsets and the main draw of the plugin, which is animating the shape as a quick transition. The subtract text from fill is another convenient option instead of having to use an alpha matte. The plugin resides on the text layer as well, keeping comps clean.
The matte option is one of the strongest features since you can create easy transitions for the text to be revealed, a definite speed enhancer for doing simple lower thirds and quick pop-in text boxes. Could definitely see it put to use in some infographic videos. About every variable is keyable and will accept expressions. Instead of having to use mattes to create this below demo, it was all done on the text layer:
