Attach Layers to Shape Paths in After Effects with Wayfinder Free Trial
Wayfinder is an awesome little script for Adobe After Effects that enables you to attach layers along shape layers – static or animated.
The script is simple in operation. Select a shape, enter the number of points (nulls) you want to create and attach layers with a button. From there you will have X amount of nulls in the comp that stay attached to the original shape layer. Any animations and transforms will not break the connections so you can truly parent anything to a curve.
The interface is very simple, since it’s sole purpose is to essentially create a null rig allowing you to animate your shape layer as normal. Too much to drink, all I could think of trying was a ski lift scene with the lifts attached to a shape layer.
It was super simple to animate what would have been a longer process without the script. You can see the nulls on the shape layer, and they stay where they are supposed to no matter how I messed with the layer path.
Wayfinder is available from aescripts.com and at $25 I think it is a great ol one to have in the tool belt – it also has a trial mode so you can decide before plunking down the cash.
