RED MONSTRO Brings 8K, Better Color, and Improved Dynamic Range – See the Footage
The latest sensor to come out of RED, the MOSNTRO VV is their greatest to leave the labs.
What was sometimes rumored to be a bigger version of the existing HELIUM, it is actually an all new pixel design that nets benefits in all measures. It is a 35.4MP CMOS sensor (40.96mm x 21.60mm) that can capture 60FPS at 8K Full Frame with data rates up to 300MB/s.
The short released with the announcement was shot on 8K MOSNTRO (duh) using Sigma Cine Primes and Leica Thalia glass
RED is claiming a pretty rediculous 17+ stops of dynamic range. There is a demo video you can view here, and here are some grabs below. Yes heavily compressed, but they are crops and it is quite clear the noise difference:
The MONSTRO VV will come in the same form factor as all other WEAPON camera bodies so accessories will remain compatible. Even Dragon OLPFs are compatible.
A brand new out the box body will cost $79,500. RED continues their upgrade program with Carbon Weapon owners upgrades available for $29,500 and Weapon Stormtrooper upgrades costing $14,500. Orders are set to begin shipping in 2018.
