Houdini Destruction Cleanup Tool Reduces Your Sims for Export – Download and Tutorial
Paul Ambrosiussen is an artist who has developed a little tool for Houdini called Destruction Cleanup, which is intended to optimize your Houdini sims before sending out to another application. Game devs may find this particularly useful.
There are two methods of using the tool. First is via direct DOP access. The second method is importing a cached BGEO sequence. The cleanup method has two options.
First is cleanup using a proximity based method, as the tool will figure out which pieces have similar transforms in the animation and will use a defined search radius to batch the chunks together. The other method is Proximity and Constraint Based. Users can provide a constraint geometry to exclude any chunks to allow finer details to remain in the sim.
In the tests provided Ambrosiussen is claiming a 97% reduction in one scene, going from 2000 primatives to 59. Check out the tutorial for the overview, and click here to download.
